Macon Public Library

The Macon Public Library was added on to in 1999 and has it all. You can come in and use their computers to access the Internet, students have access to top level study material, and there are many children’s programs. The “Friends of the Library” organization has monthly book readings and special programs.

Macon Long Branch Lake

Macon Airport

Macon-Fower Memorial Airport is located inside the city limits and has a north-south, 3,300′ , hard surface runway. There is a mechanic on duty, and flight instruction school. Hanger space and aviation fuel are also available. The well maintained, modern facility, with its friendly operators give visitors a very good first impression of Macon. The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1212 is headquartered at the airport and holds fly-in breakfasts, as well as, Young Eagle flights providing Macon residents with the opportunity to enjoy the aviation experience.

Macon YMCA

Through a massive fund raising effort by local residents, the Long Branch Area YMCA was able to purchase its first home in 1999. Members enjoy working out on the strength training equipment, using free weights and walking the treadmills. The YMCA offers classes in Tae Kwon Do, aerobics, both kick boxing and regular, as well as Yoga classes. They also hold swimming aerobics at the Macon City Pool. Children from preschool age on up may participate in the gymnastic program, attend baton twirling classes plus may other programs. In the future, supporters of the YMCA want to construct an indoor swimming pool.

Macon Hospital

The Samaritan Memorial Hospital was founded in 1927. As needs continued to grow, so did the hospital. Today it has expanded to include outpatient clinics, staff physicians, a nine bed geriatric psychiatric unit, called Senior Care, two surgery suites, a Monitored Care Unit, and lab. Some of the programs and services offered by the hospital are emergency department with ambulance service providing highly skilled paramedics. Also, there are hemodialysis treatments six days a week, and maternity care. Other services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, radiology, chemotherapy, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and much much more. Samaritan Hospital works jointly with the community to meet the health care needs of our community. The residents of Macon consider themselves very lucky to have a quality hospital right on their door step.
